The day began like any other at the Sacramento SPCA, but it was destined to take an extraordinary turn. A breeder surrendered a disabled bulldog puppy named Bueller in a box. He was unable to stand or walk due to Swimmer’s Syndrome and faced a life-threatening fate if the breeder had his way. But destiny had other plans for Bueller. The staff at the Sacramento SPCA looked into his eyes and saw a will to live that was too strong to ignore.

Bueller’s journey was nothing short of miraculous. Dr. Laurie, the Chief of Shelter Medicine at the Sacramento SPCA, observed Bueller’s determination to get what he wanted. And what Bueller wanted was to walk. The decision was made to give Bueller extensive therapy, including water therapy, to strengthen his muscles. It was an uphill battle, but Bueller and the team remained determined. The day he held his weight up with his feet under him marked the first step towards success.
Bueller’s journey did not stop there. He progressed to using a wheelchair, which played a pivotal role in teaching him to walk on his own. Witnessing Bueller walking for the first time brought the entire team to the brink of tears. A monumental victory, not just for Bueller but for everyone who had been a part of his journey. Soon after, Bueller was ready to find a forever home and was put up for adoption.

The story of Bueller’s resilience went viral, garnering over 8.6 million views on The Dodo. Naturally, many people wanted to adopt him. However, the Sacramento SPCA wanted to ensure that Bueller found the best home possible. They asked applicants to write a letter explaining why their family would be the perfect fit for Bueller. Lindsay Taylor, Bueller’s adoptive mother, shared her emotional journey of losing their beloved bulldog, Chubbs, to cancer. The Taylor family’s genuine love for bulldogs and their eagerness to offer Bueller a loving home caught the attention of the Sacramento SPCA.

Bueller found his forever home with the Taylor family. They were not sure if they were ready for a new bulldog after losing Chubbs, but Bueller melted their hearts. “But we have so much love to give – really to any animal, but Bueller just pulled at our heartstrings,” Taylor said. “He’s just a really strong little guy, and we’re just really excited to have him as our family member.”
Bueller’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and love. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of giving animals with special needs a chance to thrive. They have so much love to offer and deserve a loving home. Remember to adopt, don’t shop!
