Introducing your newborn baby to your pet can be a real challenge for many parents. You never know how they would behave towards your baby. However, if you know and trust your pet well enough, things can be much more straightforward.
This was the case with a couple in Lancashire, England. The lady recently gave birth to a sweet little baby girl, Mia, whom the couple introduced to their pet cat, Milo. Although they had complete faith in their Maine Coon cat, the couple were still skeptical about how the animal would react upon seeing the baby for the first time.
Like any other pet dog or cat, Milo was a bit surprised while being introduced to a new family member. Since he was accustomed to fully grown humans, Milo was surprised to see a miniature human in the house.
At first, the cat preferred to stand at a distance from the baby. However, after gathering some courage, Milo decided to sniff at the baby. After sniffing his heart’s content, Milo got a bit scared and decided to maintain distance between him and Mia.
Although Milo kept a close watch on the baby from a distance for a few days, he soon overcame his fear and came closer to Mia. While the baby slept peacefully, Milo would spend some time lying down beside the baby on the bed.
He soon began trusting the baby so much that his fear of Mia vanished utterly. He would allow the baby to play with his fur and pull at it while he licked the baby when he thought nobody was watching him.
As Mia grew, the closeness and friendship between Milo and the baby also grew. The cat would always spend time with the baby and play with Mia when he got a chance.
