Majestic Black Chicken Brings Good Luck Wherever He Goes

When you think of beautiful or majestic animals, what comes to mind? Maybe you picture a horse galloping through a lush field or perhaps a dolphin frolicking between waves. One wild animal that you might not think of is a chicken.

That’s all about to change when you get a glimpse of what Great Big Story caught on film during their visit to Indonesia. A farmer named Wira Cusuma showcases a rare breed of chickens that he raises that are entirely black.

Ayam Cemani chickens have a dominant gene called firbomelanosis, which creates so much melanin in their body that their skin and feathers are entirely jet-black. It’s quite the sight to see compared to the regular chickens we have in America.

The unique breed is thought to bring prosperity and good fortune to those who own them. A single Ayam Cemani bird in Indonesia will cost someone between $700 to $1,400 USD. Now that’s a spendy pet to keep.
