These adorable kittens are Toygers, named after the stripes on their coats. Like their big cat cousins, their striped bodies hide brave hearts, if only they can get past their timidity.
Toygers are a rare cat breed that was created in the 1990s from striped domestic shorthaired tabbies. They were created to resemble tigers, and their name is meant to draw attention to the need for conservation of their larger big cat cousins.
The bravery that their name implies isn’t always evident in Toyger cats. Take these 3-week old Toyger kittens, who start off small and timid and only after having grown into their stripes do they venture out to claim their territory.
