The world comes to life in mysterious ways, especially on a bustling highway during morning rush hour. It was just another morning on one of the busiest highways of the nation. Drivers in their cars, lost in their thoughts, were suddenly jolted to reality by an unexpected guest – a terrified dog dashing in and out of traffic.
Amidst the cacophony of blaring horns and screeching tires, this brave little soul seemed lost and out of place. Many drivers tried to come to her aid. Some slowed down their cars attempting to create a makeshift blockade, trying to safely corral her. The dog, out of pure instinct, hesitated, refusing to jump into any of the vehicles that stopped for her, as if she was searching for something – or someone.
Enter Amber Streid, a cardiac nurse with a heart just as big as her profession demands. As cars continued to slow, and drivers shouted in their attempts to help, Amber decided to try her luck. She recalls, “I looked to the left of the carpool lane and saw this little one running, her eyes filled with fear. I instinctively opened my car door, and to my amazement, she hopped right in, seeking refuge at my feet.”
Why did the dog trust Amber immediately? Perhaps it was a connection, an understanding, or maybe, just pure chance. After working a taxing 12-hour shift, Amber’s day was far from over. Now, she had this wounded canine, her paw bleeding, seeking comfort at her feet.
The universe has its own way of rewarding kind souls. As the scared dog nestled into Amber’s car, a distant applause rang out. The couple in the truck behind and a van driver cheered for Amber’s compassion and quick thinking.
One might think Amber’s day was filled with enough surprises, but fate had one more in store. After the rescue, she called her father only to find out he had watched the entire heart-stopping scene unfold on live television! He exclaimed in disbelief, “That was you?!”
Post-rescue, this beautiful stray, now affectionately named “Lady Luck” for the sheer luck she carried with her that day, was taken to a vet. Despite her terrifying journey, Lady Luck seemed well-fed and possibly belonged to a loving home. The Streid family, already heroes to four rescue dogs, decided to shelter Lady Luck until her family could be found.
Over two million hearts were touched by Lady Luck’s gripping story on Inside Edition’s YouTube page. Comments poured in from all over, with one particularly poignant note reading, “The way she just hopped right into the car, her trust immediate and unwavering. Thank you to the kind-hearted souls who helped save her life.”
