Animals are extraordinary to observe and we have learned so much about them simply by watching them. There is still so much to learn about animals, but luckily for us there are numerous people jumping up and volunteering for the job.
What many of us don’t realize is that animals are capable of feeling pain and they often time experience the same kind of aches and pains that humans do. When you think of animals you just don’t think of them as having the same kind of medical issues that we do but they in fact they can!
One animal that was experiencing pain was an Asian elephant named Lucha. Lucha is a 33 year old elephant who lives at the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in England. Lucha’s caretakers there started noticing that she was losing weight and being very withdrawn. After a quick exam it quickly became apparent that Lucha had a pretty bad infection around a tooth in her mouth.
The zoo didn’t waste any time in finding a dentist that specializes in exotic animal dentistry, we didn’t know that they existed either, and had them come to help Lucha. After a two hour procedure the dentist was able to remove the entire infected tooth and we are happy to say that Lucha is feeling much better these days. We’re so happy that they were able to help Lucha and that she is on the road to recovery now!
