An animal lover in Utah is creating warm places for community cats to get in out of the cold by recycling old coolers and filling them with straw. The man believes all animals deserve a safe place in winter and has set out his cat condos throughout the area near his Utah home.
Phillip Rogich, an animal lover living in Utah, was worried about the health and safety of the community cats, especially in the cold winter months. Realizing that coolers are great insulators, he transformed a cooler into a cat home by drilling a hole in the side and filling it with clean straw.
He says that about three full-sized cats can take shelter in a cooler, and the straw is a great bedding material because it dries out quickly. It only takes him about five minutes to create one of these ingenious cat condos, and then he places it outside where he’s seen street cats living.
