Every pet lover knows the joy that comes from giving an animal a loving home, and the heartbreak that comes from seeing an animal in distress. When Doug and Michelle decided to foster Mary, a dog who had already been through so much, they were determined to make a difference in her life. Mary was rescued by the Foxy and the Hounds dog rescue organization from a shelter, where she was found with a wound on her nose, looking defeated and weak. Terrie Fox, the founder of the organization, couldn’t believe that after all the effort she had put into rehoming Mary, she ended up being neglected again.

Terrie became determined to find Mary a loving family, one that would last her whole lifetime. Mary was placed with Doug and Michelle, a couple who already had two dogs that they had adopted after fostering. Doug was firm at first, saying that this was just a foster situation and he didn’t want to get attached. However, as the days passed, Michelle noticed that Doug started to get attached to Mary.

Knowing what Doug didn’t want to admit, Michelle decided to surprise Doug on Christmas. When he opened the gift from his wife, inside the small box were a set of dog tags that said “Mary”. Doug couldn’t help but cry and kissed Mary. It was a touching moment that reminded them both of the importance of being responsible pet owners and kind human beings.

Organizations like We Love Animals and Foxy and the Hounds work tirelessly to ensure that no dog (or animal) experiences what Mary has experienced. Dogs deserve the best life, and it’s up to us to provide that for them.

Remember, adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment that should not be taken lightly. If you’re considering adopting a pet, make sure you’re ready for the responsibility. And if you’re not ready to adopt, consider fostering an animal in need. It can be a rewarding experience that makes a huge difference in the life of an animal.
