This heartwarming tale comes to us as a video making its rounds on social media. It’s a story of challenges and tough decisions, love and compassion, and a little dog named Lilo. In the video, we see Lilo, a beautiful dog, who was found wandering the streets with her leash still attached. It was a surprise when a good Samaritan found her and took her to the McKamey Animal Center.
What makes Lilo’s story unique is the note clipped onto her leash. As the shelter staff opened the note, it read: “My name is Lilo. Please love me. My mom can’t keep me and is homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best but can’t get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me and I’m a great dog and love to be loved on. Please don’t abuse me.”
Reading those words, anyone would feel the sadness that Lilo’s mom must have felt when she had to make that tough decision. However, the shelter staff didn’t feel angry or judgemental towards her. They were moved by the love that Lilo’s mom had for her dog.
And so, they promised to take care of Lilo, keep her name, and ensure she finds her forever home. But they also wanted to reach out to Lilo’s mom, to let her know that they understood and would help her in any way they could.
The next day, the McKamey Animal Center posted an update on Facebook, and it was a beautiful one. Lilo’s mom had gone to the shelter and was reunited with her beloved fur baby. As they snapped a photo, you could see the love and the joy in both their eyes.
After the sweet reunion, the shelter went the extra mile to set up a haven and provide resources for Lilo and her family. They even created The MAC Cares Fund to help people and their pets stay together when homelessness and financial hardship loom.
So, my friends, if you believe in miracles, then this is a great possibility. Approach your local shelter when facing a similar situation because love will always prevail.
