There’s an old saying that goes, “A house becomes a home when you add one set of four legs, a happy tail, and that indescribable measure of love that we call a dog.” Through my days as a veterinarian, I’ve had the privilege of meeting countless four-legged friends, each with their own quirks and peculiarities. From the mischievous to the playful, these wonderful creatures always manage to bring a smile to our faces.
I fondly remember a golden retriever who, despite being a tad too big for his own good, had the determination to get through a doggy door. Picture this: a determined retriever trying to squeeze through the door, only to bring the whole door down with him. It was as if he was saying, “If I can’t fit through, I’ll just take the door with me!” His earnestness was a sight to behold.
Then there’s the pitbull, basking in the sun on a balcony, unknowingly draping a curtain over its head like a bride’s veil. A sight that would have anyone wonder, “Who’s the lucky groom?”
But not all dogs are content with simple shenanigans. Enter Kevin, the French bulldog, with a penchant for pristine pools. When his mom decided to add branches into his pool, Kevin took matters into his own paws. With unmatched resolve, he decided that if he couldn’t have his pool the way he wanted, he would simply run around with the entire pool!
Speaking of unmatched resolve, there’s another canine comrade who has a keen interest in technology. A video about ducks on a laptop? Sounds entertaining, right? But not for this tech-savvy pooch. With one swift move, he shut down the entire session, leaving his human in stitches.
It’s not all fun and games, though. One brave doggo, perhaps inspired by a dream of a grand feast, decided to take on the challenge of “eating” oncoming traffic. Not the most practical approach to curb hunger, but admirable nonetheless.
Joy is a common theme amongst these creatures. One such dog, upon realizing he still had the bone given to him the previous night, showcased an emotion of pure ecstasy. While on the topic of joy, imagine the surprise of another dog being cheered on by a crowd, bewilderingly looking around, perhaps wondering if he had suddenly become a canine celebrity.
But with joy, sometimes comes jealousy. Just ask the grown-up golden retriever who wasn’t too keen on sharing the spotlight with a new puppy addition to the family. It seems even our four-legged friends aren’t immune to the green-eyed monster!
