Surrealist artist Richard Saunders is the genius behind the ‘Topiary Cat’ images that have been floating around social media for years. In this video, he talks about the origin of the project, and how it has impacted him as an artist and a pet owner.
Saunders got the idea for the Topiary Cat painting series after seeing one of the large, amorphous Victorian-style hedges on the grounds of a local estate. He thought to himself “why, that looks a lot like my cat Tolly when he’s sleeping,” and the rest is history.
