Having been surrendered to a shelter at the age of nine and in a state of infirmity, forming trust of humans would be difficult for a neglected cat. When Dan and Hannah were called to foster a downtrodden feline boy, he understandably met them with trepidation. They had no way of knowing that just a little bit of their tender loving care would turn this boy into such an affectionate cuddle-bug.
The couple put forth special efforts to reassure the reticent feline in their care, providing him with his own room to help him acclimate to his new home, giving him medication to help reduce his pain, and spending the first hours with him gently brushing through his knotted and matted coat until it became clean and smooth. The grateful boy began to purr, enjoying the love they gave him so freely.
When his brushing was complete, the long-haired ginger cat expressed his gratitude with a great big hug, earning him the moniker, Huggs. As his health has gradually improved, Huggs has blossomed under the consistent care of his new fosters, who even purchased a baby Bjorn in which to carry the affectionate feline who favors chin nuzzles as an expression of his love.
Hugs want nothing more than to feel the physical touch of his humans. Dan reports that the minute he comes home from work in the evenings the demonstrative cat comes to him and places front paws on his shins in an obvious request to be held. Cue baby Bjorn. It seems that the small act of kindness and care to brush a neglected cat has opened up a Pandora’s Box of love…complete with a plethora of hugs.
