Fighting like cats and dogs, as the expression goes. An old Russian legend claims that they don’t get along because the devil has tricked each into thinking the other has its rightful fur. Whatever the case may be, the two species really do seem to be naturally antagonistic.

However, with the right human-supervised socialization, it is possible for cats and dogs to live together happily under one roof. This can even lead to the comical situation of a great big dog being terrified of a much smaller cat once the back arches, the tail puffs, and the claws come out.
The miracle of life is nothing short of amazing, but that said, the process of giving birth is excruciating. Humans typically have a lot of help through the process: at the very least, a midwife and often doctors, nurses, and lots of meds. Meanwhile, animals in the wild are on their own with only their own instincts to get them through it. When a pet is in labor, there’s really not much the human (grand)parents can do except be present, offering a kind of moral support.
In the incredible video we’ve posted below, you’ll see a mother cat being helped through the birthing process by none other than her friend the dog! These two are obviously very close friends; otherwise, the cat would not have allowed the dog anywhere near her newborn kittens. The dog is very gentle and loving, licking each of the kittens, perhaps his way of welcoming them into the world and letting them know he’s a friend.
We hope you enjoyed the video above. Our pets and animals bring constant joy to our lives and always bring a smile.
