Saving Emma The Pig: When Emma Arrived On The Farm She Was Pregnant And Far Too Skinny

There are few things in this world more powerful than a mother’s love. You can see countless examples of this on the internet, from women who run into burning buildings to save their children to animals of all kinds doing death-defying feats in the name of their offspring. It’s a kind of love that can change a life, or bring one into being, and it’s something we should be grateful for every minute of the day.

The pig in this video is a perfect example not only of the power of a mother’s love but the strength of a child’s love for their mother, as well. John Chester is the owner of Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark, CA. When Emma, the pig, first arrived at the farm, she was in a bad way. Woefully malnourished and sickly, she needed lots of tender loving care. But she didn’t have the luxury of being nursed back to health in her own time -she was also very pregnant.

When Emma went into labor, Chester expected she would only have a handful of piglets due to her health. Emma surprised everyone when she gave birth to 17 piglets, 13 of which survived. The labor left her weaker and weaker than ever. She became feverish, and her health declined rapidly.

Chester was forced to remove the piglets to give Emma a chance to recuperate without the demands of her newborns. Unfortunately, it didn’t help, and Emma stayed sick and getting sicker. Finally, Chester decided he’d try bringing the piglets back, to at least give them some time with their mother.

Then, something miraculous occurred. Emma’s health began to improve. Her children were giving her a will to live, and strength to fight. But that’s not the whole story. Watch the video below to hear the end of Emma’s tale.
