There’s a saying that goes, ‘Find a job you love, or love the job you do.’ This is one of the simplest life lessons, but it’s also one of the most difficult to fulfill. Why? Often the job we like is not available or we’re simply not qualified for it. It is common for us to get a job on whatever the market has to offer at the time. This is usually not what was our first option.
Other people who decide to follow their dreams soon find out that their dreams are not enough to pay the rent and other expenses. When this happens, they sometimes decide that they should better get a part-time job or a side job that will allow them to maintain their original path.
It is here that you realize that if life gives you lemons, you might as well make lemonade. Happiness is not getting it what you want when you want it. Happiness is working hard but being satisfied with what you have. Doing this is walking a very fine line between pushing harder and knowing when to say, ‘enough is enough’.
I won’t say that I’m in the case of the people who are satisfied all the time, but I do need to remind myself that life is not a 100-meter dash but a marathon. I used to have a boss that would say that we needed to find some time for ourselves and our families because work truly never ends. I used to be a little obsessed with doing more than I was supposed to until I started getting sick.
I went to see my family doctor, and he performed several tests on me. After he was done, he told me that my problem was stress. I mean, I had a job that I kind of enjoyed. Somehow, I didn’t seem to be enjoying it as much as before. After the doctor’s visit, I started to look back to see where was it that I had lost my ways. I arrived at the conclusion that it was because I had goals that were simply too ambitious.
I decided to relax and take life day by day. One of the things that I started doing was take 5 minutes to reflect on how I had gotten that job and what I wanted to do. I also tried to do my activities a little bit slower than usual, so I could learn to enjoy every aspect of it. Even though I feel I am getting there, I found a video of a guy who takes it to an entirely different level. A guy in the airport is looking out of the window of a plane when he sees an airport employee behaving in the most unusual way. He starts recording and what he films is pure gold!
