A lot of us walk straight into pet shops when we want a new pet! We pay top dollar for the animals displayed in the store, but never stop to consider the life we could save by choosing to adopt one instead. There are so many animals abandoned at pet shelters that will die soon unless they are adopted.
Now in the United States, many chain pet supply stores no longer sell puppies, dogs, or cats. Instead, they have adoption days and all pets come from the local shelter. I think this is a brilliant idea and that all pet stores should do this. Perhaps this would put an end to many puppy mills and the suffering of many animals.
In this video, we see purebred animals in the shop window being replaced by rescue shelter animals. When the customers are told that they can have their chosen pet for free, most of them don’t believe it! They then take away these pets for free. This is an ingenious idea and it should be encouraged as much as possible! Not only are the owners happy but the animals get the love and care they deserve!
Part of the stores’ reason for doing this is to educate people about shelter animals so they can see what wonderful pets they make. I would say it is working based on the adoption success in this video, but why does a shelter dog have to be free in order for people to adopt when they were willing to pay hundreds for a pure bred dog? I think they are just as valuable.
