An old adage advises that if you see someone without a smile you should give them one of yours. Nala the cat takes this advice very seriously and literally. Formerly pregnant and homeless, she was plucked from the streets and taken to a shelter, where her permanent smile charms staff and visitors alike.
Her unusual grinning visage stems from a cleft lip, a rare congenital condition that affects both human and non-human animals. Nala’s single surviving kitten was adopted quickly, but she still waits for the perfect person to come along and love her enough to take her home.
Friendly Nala uses her extraordinary appearance to attract attention. She loves people, and whenever someone steps into her space she runs, smiling her best smile, to greet them. While inside her condo she stands on her hind feet, pawing at the glass and always grinning, to get the attention she craves.
Her remarkable face does not seem to bother Nala any, although she does have a skin condition that requires a special diet, meaning potential adopters must be willing to feed her that food to keep her skin healthy. Otherwise, Nala is perfectly normal and healthy and ready to go home, where a lucky family can bask in the sunshine of her smile every day.
