When a puppy wants to play, it’s always nice to get down to the little dog’s altitude. You’ll see eye to eye and play on the same terms. When the puppy is a tiny Shih-tzu, that means you’ve got to get all the way down to the floor.
Even adult Shih-tzus aren’t big. When full-grown, these dark-eyed cuties are only about 11 inches tall at the shoulders. The breed has short legs, droopy ears, long fur from snout to tail, and a hilarious little underbite. Shih-tzus tend to be friendly, lively, and get along well with children. One humorous description goes: “a dash of lion, several teaspoons of rabbit, a couple of ounces of domestic cat, one part court jester, a dash of ballerina, a pinch of old man, a bit of beggar, a tablespoon of monkey, one part baby seal, and a dash of teddy bear.” Interestingly, the name actually comes from the Chinese word for lion. Shih-tzus were bred to look like the lions in traditional Chinese artwork.
A French photographer adopted an adorable little black and white Shih-tzu puppy and quickly realized that for best results, he’d have to get all the way down on the floor. As you’ll see in the video we’ve posted below, that was a great idea. He and the puppy have a wonderful frolic. It begins with a little game where they do a kind of jumping back and forth. Then it’s time to nuzzle and exchange kisses. This goes so well that the man gets his ear nibbled and then they exchange licks. The things we do to make our pets happy! All this fun earns the man a loving chomp to the nose!
You’ll grin from ear to ear when you see just how much fun the two of them are having. All it took was a willingness to get down on the floor.
