After flying away from his home in California in 2010, an African Grey parrot, named Nigel, was reunited with his British owner, Darren Chick, four years later. Yet, the impeccable British accent that Nigel previously had was now gone. Now, this gorgeous fella chattered in Spanish, often asking for someone named Larry.
Nigel was discovered in Torrance by Julissa Sperling, who owns a dog-grooming business. The parrot had been whistling and chattering outside her front door. Julissa says Nigel was the happiest bird she had seen, singing and chattering and even barking like the dogs. After quite a search for Nigel’s owner, Julissa was able to reunite Darren and Nigel four years after Nigel had flown away from home. When reunited, Nigel initially bit Darren – maybe their last chat wasn’t pleasant? Mr. Chick said seeing his long-lost pet for the first time in years definitely brought a tear to his eye (probably NOT from the bite, though).
