“Grandpa” Harrow is an elderly tabby cat who adores foster kittens who need his friendship and cuddles. That’s why when Lilac came into his home as a foster baby who had lost her brother and needed feline companionship, he was happy to volunteer his snuggle services.
Sad little Lilac took to Harrow immediately, burrowing and nuzzling into his warm fur coat like a little earthworm would dig its way into soft, damp soil. When foster volunteers temporarily separated the two felines, Harrow responded to her plaintive cries by jumping into her nest to offer his comfort.
Lilac relied on Harrow’s purring and steady heartbeat to calm her, gaining confidence and strength from the larger cat’s reassuring presence. When she was nuzzled against him, she felt no more need to cry. Even when little Lilac needed to be away for testing at the veterinary clinic, she immediately ran to her “grandpa” upon her return, and let her own purring mix with his to soothe her to sleep.
The time that Lilac spent with Harrow helped her to thrive. She regained her appetite, which had waned, and her strength flourished to the point where she was finally healthy and as strong as any kitten her age. Now Lilac has moved to the next chapter of her life, having been adopted into a loving family. That leaves Harrow available and waiting for the next waif to come along to partake in his signature snuggles and purrs.
