They call it “small dog syndrome.” While a big dog might be confidence incarnate, a small dog is a little bundle of insecurities. The small dog resolves this by deluding itself into thinking it’s bigger and more powerful than it really is. Their attempts to punch above their weight can sometimes have disastrous consequences but on other occasions it can be funny and even downright cute.
If you had to name a small breed of dog, you might well choose the Chihuahua. Name a big breed? Why, the Great Dane, of course! A full-grown Chihuahua, if that isn’t a contradiction in terms, weights around 5 pounds. A respectable Great Dane tips the scale at around 150 pounds. To look at it another way, Great Danes outweigh Chihuahuas by a good 30 to 1.
So it’s automatically comical if a pint-sized Chihuahua and a gigantic Great Dane become friends and play at fighting. That’s what you’ll see in the video we’ve posted below. A tiny 12 week-old Chihuahua has made friends with Vago the Great Dane. They’ve meet up at The Forks, a park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We don’t know what bone Lilly had to pick with Vago. Or maybe she just wanted to fight for the sheer fun of it. But in any case, the scrappy little Chihuahua jumps around waving her paws aggressively (and hilariously). Her barks sound more like chirps from a bird! Fortunately, Vago is a gentle giant. He plays along, batting at Lilly with only a tiny fraction of the force he’s capable of. His owner is there to make sure he stays in line, but he seemed to know it was all just play.
