When Rachel met the Pitbull, Piggy Pie, she felt an instant connection with the abandoned mama dog. What Rachel did not expect was that she would find the perfect sibling for her unborn son.
“I was about four months pregnant when we took her in,” said Rachel. “She was a throwaway mom, found as a stray. Missing hair everywhere, skin infection everywhere. But something about her really spoke to us.”
Rachel and her partner hoped they could give Piggy Pie the support and love she had been missing in her old life. To help her recover, they treated her like a princess and gave her baths three times a week.
Piggy Pie quickly grew close to her loving family, and it did not take long before she showed interest in her little sibling. “She would put her paws between my belly and her head on top of it,” said Rachel.
When Rachel’s son, Nathan, came home, Piggy Pie immediately gravitated toward him. “She always kind of sat over him and cuddled him,” said Rachel. “They just kind of understand each other.”
The connection between Piggy Pie and Baby Nathan only grew with the passing months. Piggy Pie would help him clean up after his baths, and once Nathan could walk, he followed Piggy Pie everywhere.
Rachel and her partner cannot wait to see their relationship get stronger over the years. “The evolution of their relationship has been just so special to watch,” said Rachel. “We’re just looking forward to them evolving together.”
