Kitten With a Wink Is Brought Back From the Brink

Kitten rescuer Amanda volunteered to come to the rescue of two sibling kittens: Maple and Egg, who were four weeks old, severely undernourished, and severely underweight, with very serious upper respiratory infections. Even with Amanda’s consistent around the clock care, their respiratory conditions worsened, taking the life of Egg, and rendering Maple’s right eye permanently sightless and closed.

Maple had a strong spirit and will to live, so she held on through the worst portion of her illness and began a slow recovery. Her weight began increasing, as did her energy. The plucky little feline began running and playing for the first time since Amanda had taken her in.

Amanda knew her gritty little girl had finally turned a corner in a moment when she behaved like any other kitten, playing enthusiastically on the bed between her and her partner. She could finally breathe a sigh of relief, believing whole-heartedly for the first time that Maple would survive.

The committed foster mom recalled the time when Maple came to her and she was severely emaciated. Contrasting the chubby kitten she had become with that skeletal baby from two months prior made Amanda smile in her relief. Now Maple is the boss of her household, even lording it over her grown feline roommates. But as sassy as she was when she was little, the kitten who almost didn’t survive is now a strong bundle of love and cuddles. That makes Amanda happy.
