In addition to making sure your animal is fed and watered, it is critical to make sure they have enrichment. Unfortunately, when this family decided to make their home funner for their cat, it backfired.
Ben and Kelsey’s cat, Percy, was a climber. “He would just not stop climbing things,” said Kelsey. “He would just sit on top of these doors like he was some apex predator in the jungle.”
It did not matter to Percy what it was. Wherever the highest point in the room was, he wanted to be on top of it. Sometimes that meant climbing doors. Other times he would hitch a ride on his dad’s shoulders.
Ben and Kelsey knew they needed to give their athletic cat an outlet, so they built a jungle gym for Percy. Now, Percy could jump across a couple wood platforms and sit in a cat hammock.
When fur parents build something for an animal, there is always the chance that they will refuse to use it. Fortunately, Percy was ecstatic about the opportunity to climb new things.
Ben and Kelsey thought they had found the perfect solution until Percy realized a new way to keep himself entertained. He was now at the perfect height to steal his dad’s hats.
Part of Ben regretted putting the cat hammock so close to the corner, but for him and Kelsey, the price was worth it. “It’s just enjoyable to see him enjoying himself,” said Ben.
