A new puppy can change the power dynamic. Dogs see family groups as packs. They will defend their pack to the death, and they will fight other packs to ensure the dominance of them and theirs. The trait is carried down from when they were still slightly cuddlier grey wolves.
When an outside comes into the pack, like a new rescue or a puppy, they need to assure their own personal dominance. Every dog needs to know their place and roll in the pack.
For this new puppy Lacie, she’s quite sure she should be higher in the pack than grumpy old Mac, who keeps trying to tell her what to do. So when Mac is going off at her at full volume she just walks up and puts him in his place. The look on his face is priceless!
