Sweet Dee was a tiny chick when Claudia found her under a truck and rescued her. She was so small that she fit in the palm of Claudia’s hand.
When Claudia took her home, that’s when Sweet Dee started to imprint on her. In other words, Sweet Dee grew attached to Claudia and saw her as her mother.
Claudia said they were basically connected by the hip. Sweet Dee would even stand on Claudia while she was working out. They spent every waking moment together. Diva was the best way Claudia could describe Sweet Dee.
One day Claudia took Sweet Dee to the park, and the little chick was hesitant to go into the grass. She wouldn’t go far from Claudia, but it wasn’t long before Sweet Dee loved being outdoors.
Sweet Dee would follow Claudia through the grass then get distracted by a fly or a worm. They would eat lunch at the park every day. Claudia watched as Sweet Dee basked in the sun.
Even Claudia’s cats were fascinated by Sweet Dee. It was an enriching experience that allowed Sweet Dee to become a funny and sassy chicken. At one point, she even played the xylophone.
Claudia couldn’t have a chicken in her apartment, so when Sweet Dee was ready, she was taken to a sanctuary. Once a week, Claudia comes to visit when she volunteers, and Sweet Dee will hop on her lap and relax.
