Lady the tuxedo cat was 20 years old when her family left her at the shelter. She was approaching full blindness, so arthritic her weak legs made it difficult to reach her litter box, and beginning to feel the effects of her dawning kidney failure.
Her previous family abandoned her, assuming she was choosing to avoid her litter box, rather than digging deeper to discover the reasons for her urinary incontinence. While browsing the internet during her midday break, veterinary technician Rebekah Carlyle stumbled on Lady’s story and her tears flowed immediately.
Rebekah was touched by Lady’s story and circumstances, and she instantly recalled her experiences with her beloved cat Minnie, who had also come into her at the age of 20 years and with kidney failure imminent. Her time with Minnie had been short, and she had been profoundly affected by the passing of her darling elderly feline friend. Rebekah knew she owed it to Minnie to rescue Lady, and she drove to the shelter the following day to fulfill the mission.
There was an instant connection between the veterinary technician and the geriatric feline. Lady nuzzled Rebekah’s hand and just the initial sight of the elderly cat in need opened the floodgates of the woman’s tears. Sweet Lady wants nothing more than the love and support of her human companion and wants to be by her side at all times. Nobody can predict how long the adorable feline elder will be inhabiting this earth, but Rebekah reassures her new friend that she will never be alone or abandoned again. She will be loved from now forward.
