Marni the Cockatoo loved his friend Grietje. But he was jealous when her newborn baby, Remi, was getting all the love and attention. Before Remi was born, Marni would sit on Grietje’s belly like he was sitting on an egg.
According to Grietje, Marni is an inquisitive bird. Remi had a crib that Marni tested out by walking around the edges and even lying inside it.
At first, Marni wasn’t sure what to think of Remi. Grietje made sure to involve Marni while Remi was sleeping with her. And she taught Remi how to be gentle with Marni.
Remi was given a lot of parrot-themed teddy bears to learn to love Marni. It wasn’t long before Remi always had a big smile on his face whenever Marni was around.
Eventually, Marni learned not to be jealous, and they became inseparable. Marni loved watching Remi with whatever he was doing, from sleeping, eating, and playing.
They had a holiday in Switzerland. They went on walks together with Remi on Grietje’s chest and Marni perched on her shoulder. It was a wonderful trip.
Remi even shares his food with Marni. Cockatoos can live up to 80 years, and it is Grietje’s hope that Marni will one day go and live with Remi when he is older.
