While a man and his cat were out on their regular walking routine, the cat, Gilbert, sniffed out a frightened kitten cowering under a bush. The timid kitten moved to a different hiding spot. Not to be deterred, Gilbert followed her, this time giving her a nose-kiss greeting.
From that point forward, the kitten, Nala, was smitten with Gilbert, although suspicious of humans. Nevertheless, she followed Gilbert wherever he went, eventually finding herself in a home with people. She hissed or bolted whenever they got too close.
Her persistent new people gave her lots of tasty food, a bath, and a checkup at the veterinary office, and little Nala began to accept and trust her human benefactors. Giving her a room of her own at first, they allowed Nala to explore on her own terms, including an introduction to their other resident cat, Nelly, who took a little bit longer to warm up to the newcomer than Gilbert had, but did come around.
Cut to about three weeks down the line and all the household felines had formed a bonded threesome. The people of the house scrapped their original idea to find a home for little Nala, deciding she needed to stay right where she was. She couldn’t separate from the others. They loved each other too much. With the help and support of her new siblings, Nala has since flourished into a confident teenage cat who is not timid with people anymore.
