Toby was a Yorkie puppy accidentally bred and was born with hydrocephalus, water in the brain. Kit of Florida Yorkie Rescue heard that his owners wanted to put him down.
Kit has spent many years taking care of dogs with special needs. At five weeks old, Toby went to Kit so she could take care of him. She believes that he is perfect just the way he is.
Since Toby’s back legs don’t work, they tried their best to bring back sensation to them. Kit doesn’t think they’ll ever work properly, and that’s okay. Walkin’ Pets built Toby a wheelchair, and it was the smallest one they ever made.
Kit loves that Toby has a joyful and playful personality. He often sounds like a windup toy, and Kit can tell that he is happy. She once had a dog named Tootsie, who was with her for 11 years.
Tootsie had to be given injections every day of her life, and people told Kit to put her down. But Kit saw that Tootsie was still happy and full of love, so she would keep her around as long as possible.
It is common for dog owners to choose to put their pets to sleep when things get rough. Kit says that people don’t want to deal with the difficulties, but she believes that every life has value.
There have been many offers to adopt Toby, but he will stay with Kit because she can devote all her time to taking care of him.
